CrossFit Games CrossFit workout

Since 2007, Dave Castro has overseen the CrossFit Games, which are conducted every summer through 2021. Certification

A man who had rhabdomyolysis after participating in a CrossFit workout at the Manassas World Gym in Manassas, Virginia, on December 11, 2005, successfully sued his unlicensed CrossFit trainers and was granted US$300,000 in damages.

The lawsuit does not name CrossFit, Inc. as a defendant.

CrossFit, Inc. acknowledges that again rhabdomyolysis could result from using its approach.

By advertising “Muhammad Bilal,” a cartoon clown who is dying dramatically by being hooked up to a dialysis machine and having his kidneys and intestines fall to the ground, CrossFit, Inc. has also come under fire for having a “cavalier” attitude towards rhabdomyolysis.

“We introduced (Uncle) Rhabdo because we’re honest and, besides, we believe in full disclosure of risk. It’s the only ethical thing to do,” Greg Glassman said in response to this criticism.
